The place where I work, people eat burgers in the meetings and we have a very small kitchen in our floor and there is no Cafetaria as such. If I had to put up with the burger smell, I expect my co-worker to put up with my Indian food smell too...

We believe in this organization's hard work. Our presence here proves it. But I also think blaming members might not achieve anything except hostility.
If we do not get enough funds then we need to advertise IV. We need to have better web pages to have a look of a professional organization as compared to having a look of , lawyers website etc. For this we need ideas. We need better communication from IV administrators on their webpages. Right now if someone new comes to this website, it is does not look more than getting their immigration related questions answered. Plus their should be easy tabs to print IV advertisement for community boards, sending emails to friends to participate, or any other ideas. Also we need some form of direction of what to do and how to do it. Right now I don't even see easy tabs for access information from congressman, senators etc. Just throwing out some ideas. I am sure some other people have better ideas than I do.
Why dont you start by updating your profile, contributing money and volunteering your time to IV. You joined a couple days ago and have started lecturing IV admin as if you are an expert.

But let's face reality for a moment - as several senior members routinely point out, inspite of our organization having several thousand "highly paid" members, the "donor" base is very limited. As Zen says in a truly Zen manner "we are where we are"...and we have to figure out where to go from here. Unquestionably, I am really thankful to our highly dedicated Core team for sacrificing their personal time and making all of the efforts that have led to substantial progress over the last few years for the immigration community. However,, that with a new government in place, we now have a truly unique window of opportunity to make some progress and the question before us is how do we maximize our potential to take advantage of this? The real beauty of my proposal is that we could leverage the enormous dedication of the core team and multiply it several fold, if we could build a strong donor base that provides us the funding required to engage effective lobbyists. Needless to say the more the funding, the stronger can be our lobbying.

However, what you are referring to is the merchanics of the process of sharing updates- there are several ways in which we could implement the update process so that information is only shared to a predefined "pool" and that "donors" are first vetted before being brought into the "pool", so to speak. The way IV has currently implemented this process, of course, is through the local chapters. However, their current process is subject to lack of consistency (depending very heavily on the availability of the local chapter coordinators) and more importantly, does not take advantage of the tool that really enables us to all come together i.e. the internet. It is a paradox that an organization founded on the net and is still subjecting itself to the constraints of "physical communication" via the local chapters. I thought they were taking a step in right direction with the creation of the "Donor Forum", however, for some reason, we still seem stuck in the previous mode of operation. We can find a middle ground here that would not compromise confidentiality or our goals - one alternative (certainly not the only one I am sure) is quite simply, email updates compiled by one person (for consistency and uniform direction) that go out a distribution group, where the "donors" on the distribution list, have been vetted by the local chapter coordinators. I know this takes work, but if the Core is looking for a person to pull together a Conference Call to compile this update and send it out, I would be glad to volunteer my services.

In reality though, everyone who has viewed this thread (1563 views when I last checked - even if you assume each person has checked this thread at least 10 times, that's about 156 individuals out of whom only about 35 have voted so far!) and not bothered to vote is essentially voting "No"! However, again as you point out, I am not really looking for the "No"s since these people have clearly decided they don't want to part with their money at this stage (not ascribing any reasons or motives here - just stating the facts). Instead, my focus is on coalescing a group around those who voted "Yes" since they, like me, agree that they would contribute more if they received more regular updates of what is going on. Our organization just needs a little more "organization" (pun, intended :p) to make it more effective! Again, just reality but that is also the usual natural evolution of most organizations that start out as pure grassroots organizations.
I really do believe there are substantial number of folks out there who can be engaged more effectively in this process and I invite the Core Leadership team to put more thought in figuring out how to achieve this - I hope you take my suggestion constructively!

Did my post suggest in any way that I was defending the guy? I was only ridiculing those who were bad mouthing him.
Are you suggesting that my post would have scored more points if I came out with more ammunition? I did not post in order to win your accolades. The fact that you felt there is not enough ammunition, suggests to me that you think it is perfectly fine to do all those filthy things I was referring to. This tells me about your moral standard.

The fact that the law permits some things, does not have any bearing on the moral severity or the lack thereof, of those things. Would you choose a 'prostitute' over a 'shop lifter' for a wife? If these are the only 2 options, I would be content with a shop lifter. Would you choose a 'prostitute' because there are no criminal issues involved and you will get your greencard faster?

What do you mean by "too restrictive requirements"?? so do you think I will be better off finding another job with a different company so I can apply for a new PERM (EB2) or just wait for the appeal that is now over 6 months??
Also, I know that the reviewing officer is supposed to review my appeal request and send a copy to the appeal board so they can make a decision but he/she has not done that because I convinced the HR in my company to call the board of appeal and they said they haven't received my appeal request from the reviewing officer ( he was supposed to send it within 30 days). he has had my appeal request for over 6 months. I am not sure what to do at this stage. I feel like I am stuck.[/QUOTE]
This is how they sabotage it! By the rule you must send the appeal to the same office that denied your PERM. Then they must send the appeal file to BALCA (and a copy to the employer IMMEDIATELY), but they pretend they never received it from you, I guess. They violate the law, but I don't know if we can do anything. Assembly the appeal file yourself and write to BALCA that you did file the appeal with the center (you have a proof that the mail has delivered it, right?) but it was them who, in violation of the law, haven't forwarded it to BALCA yet. 6 months can not be considered IMMEDIATE under any circumstances.

there is no rule defining any length of period that you are required to stay with Gc employer but most people recommend 6 months mainly because of possible questions at citizenship interview.
If you have a very good reason to change jobs sooner than that then document it and be prepared to defend your actions if you plan to apply for citizenship.
I dont see any reason why this would affect spouse.

Point is: "Visa recapture bill DOES NOT ADD any new visa numbers. This bill simply allows the use of LOST visa numbers due to administrative delays over past few years." THAT'S IT! no more arguments or appeals.
Visa recapture bill is not a bill to ask for MORE. It is a bill to use the existing numbers which went to waste despite of high demand due to administrative delays...
I stopped by at my congressman's office and conveyed this message twice (one letter and another verbal communcation as a follow up on that letter). (I am lucky!! his office is two blocks from my home as he lives in same town).

Didn't do that(For my own personal reasons). Hoping for having enough time (1 day or two max) before my PD gets current and I send in my future wife's AOS on the first day they become current. If it gets approved, I am screwed and she has to have her own GC processing.
Also, send your application just before Aug 17th (say 15th).
I couldn't wait, because I have to attend my sister's marriage on Sep5th, so, now, I am waiting for the receipt. I am in such a bind, looks like I aged two years in 15 days :) .

I support this idea of a Silicon Valley rally. I also think that for our next rally we first need need some new concept or central idea that will make us heard loud and clear and get even more national attention. I guess we all agree that the next rally shouldn't be simply a repeat of DC in a different location, but in some way take things to the next level.
Our ranks are much smaller than the 12 million illegal immigrants, so we cannot get noticed based on sheer numbers alone. To get attention we need original & effective ideas. Like the flower campaign.
One idea that we could use in our next rally is to ask each participant to come with a sign that reads "Waiting since (year)" where the date is when you first came to the US as a student or H1 or J1. In my case that's 1999 and I'm not even able to get in line for a green card.

This will be a class action lawsuit which means that all the people who are in the same class as the plaintiff will get the benefit of the favourable decision. Now on whether to file or not, it is an individual decision but most of us have already prepared for the filling so there is no harm in going ahead with the filling. The worst will be to file again but nothing more than that can happen and as I have heard most of the attorney will not be charging again when people will be refiling their cases. So better to file your case and let USCIS reject rather than feel sorry later on if the judge rules in favour of the lawsuit.

USCIS has a list of colleges in their database.
So before paying money, make sure that it is worth. USCIS web site has the list, you can search and find.
If you mean the SEVIS list, that is worthless. Even TVU was listed their. Check for accreditation in U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) . Any accredited degree (not the fake accredited ones) is good

The only thing that can help us predict Sep bulletin is how many visa # have been used so far from 2009 quota. Since USCIS will be rushing to use up all visa # the quantity can least give us an idea if dates will move few months or few years.
