I don't think EAD/H1b should matter for the loan application, but all these depends on loan agent and bank policy. I took loan from Bankofamerica without any problem.
PMI Vs 20% down payment, this is tough decision. If you want to play safe game till you get GC 5% down paymnet is better. In case if you have enough savings and planning to stay in that house for long time not it's not a wise decision to pay PMI.
:)
I heard that if one is on H-1/EAD, it is tough to secure a loan with 5% down. Any truth to that? Also, what are people's thoughts on paying PMI? Is it better to avoid PMI with a 20% down payment?

My calls are continuing. Called all the Ds and a few Rs and I will finish calling the remaining Rs in another one hour. And this is my third round of calls.
Rep. Howard Coble's (R-NC) office would not listen to you if you are not from his district. I still insisted that my support for the bill should be noted.
I have still not updated the poll.

The Ombudsman agrees with the assessment of many case workers and supervisors at USCIS field offices and service centers that the FBI name check process has limited value to public safety or national security, especially because in almost every case the applicant is in the United States during the name check process, living or working without restriction.
The Ombudsman recommended in the 2006 Annual Report (at p. 25) that the FBI name check process be re-examined. Delays in the name check process actually prolong an individual’s presence in the United States while the check is pending. In this sense, the current USCIS name check policy may increase the risk to national security by extending the time a potential criminal or terrorist remains in the country.
Name checks do not differentiate whether the individual has been in the United States for many years or a few days, is from and/or has traveled frequently to a country designated as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, or is a member of the U.S. military. Many individuals subject to lengthy name checks are either already green card holders or have been issued Employment Authorization Documents (EADs). These documents allow them to receive Social Security cards and state drivers’ licenses. Most green card applicants are also eligible to receive advance parole enabling them to travel outside the United States and return as long as their cases are pending, which can be for many years under the current process. (page 43)
As Dawn Lurie, a Vienna immigration lawyer, put it: "If there's a security reason [for the delay], then what are those people still doing here? . . . And if there isn't a security reason, then why are we making them wait for so long?" (Washington Post (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=85213&postcount=365))
FBI name checks disclose information to USCIS that is otherwise not available. Information contained in 39 [percent] of the FBI positive responses (letterhead memoranda) received in FY 06 was not contained in IBIS/TECS, USCIS’ primary background check tool. . ..
Use of the 39 percent positive response rate as referenced by USCIS to justify continuing this program may exaggerate the value of the FBI name check. It is unclear how many of the FBI name check “responses” also were revealed by one or more of the other security checks conducted for the applications. To date, the Ombudsman has been unable to ascertain from USCIS the total number of actual problem cases that the agency discovered exclusively as a result of the FBI name check. The Ombudsman understands that most, if not all, of the problem cases which would result in an eventual denial of benefits also can be revealed by the other more efficient, automated criminal and security checks that USCIS initiates.
While USCIS declined to provide the number or percentage of annual name checks that result in denials, the FBI has reported that less than 1 percent of 1.5 million names are ultimately tied to potentially damaging information.(Washington Post (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=85213&postcount=365))

I was about to send the e-mail and then I decided to clarify this before jumping on to it.
I am not sure if I am asking the right question, but I am just curious what is the point in sending same e-mails to the editor of the newspaper ? From my experience in talking to them, they seems to be looking for issues and when you have something valid they print. Also a single e-mail from IV talking about us (on behalf of 6000 of us) and the issues we are facing would have sufficed ? Right ? or I am missing something ? I know e-mail as faxes work for political campaign to show numbers but not seen it in news media ?

I checked with some folks who have got GCs in the past and they mentioned that FP (2nd time ) is not needed.....unlike the minds of USCIS one's FP doesn't change over his lifetime...that said..if you apply renew EAD u can get FP notice....
But if 15 month rule of FP is correct then very few will get approved as very few have received 2nd FP notice....so I am not sure what is good or bad...we need to know if the folks who had got FP notice had recently renewed their EADs or not.
I am current next month but I rate my odds as 2/98 meaning 2% chance of getting clear.....taking into account RD/ND/transfer/FP all vagaries into account....even Indian monsoon is more predictable.

No rules are rules for uscis. Remember during the famous 07/07 VB fiasco-- Uscis came out with an explanation for reversal of initial VB as follows:
60,000 visas available were made available to approve able cases' over the weekend.. So you can expect anything from those quarters..

I'll believe it when i see it.
I have heard and seen far too many such "stunts" and public displays to be excited just yet.
But it would be disastrous in terms of PR if even this fails. But like you, I would not hold my breath for this but am cautiously optimistic at the same time.
Also, please realize that any changes to the bill will meet absolute resistance from both sides. We will have to wait and see how many amendments are they planning on allowing.....

What the hell is wrong with you? Stop using Slurs. Eating Sambar Rice and curd rice does not make a life life with out pride.
Take your Slavery argument some where else. if you truely believe so, go to your masters on the hill and fight for abolishing slavery.
Not able to work does not directly cause loss of self esteem. Sorry to say this but this is the bitter truth. if you or your spouse's self esteem is so hurt because of the inability to work, fight for it and get H-4's the ability to work. Some thing like Lily ledbetter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilly_Ledbetter_Fair_Pay_Act) did. Just blaming that it hurts my self esteem does not win brownie points.
You and Zen dont deserve reds. You guys are beyond red reds. So I will not give you a red so that your self esteem does not go down further.
So here come the thing. Thats why i asked in my original post is IV just for people who have applied for Green card ? I wanted to know if they could address these issues as well . Regarding inability to work and self esteem , just stay in home for few days and then feel how much you loose. Man , its 21st century and ability to work is basic right.

As of May 2007, USCIS reported a staggering 329,160 FBI name check cases pending, with approximately 64 percent (211,341) of those cases pending more than 90 days and approximately 32 percent (106,738) pending more than one year.
While the percentages of long-pending cases compared to last year are similar, the absolute numbers have increased. There are now 93,358 more cases pending the name check than last year. Perhaps most disturbing, there are 31,144 FBI name check cases pending more than 33 months as compared to 21,570 last year over a 44 percent increase in the number of cases pending more than 33 months. (page 37)
The backlog appears likely to get worse, because a USCIS fee increase -- slated to take effect in July -- has prompted a 50 percent rise in new naturalization applications so far this year. If a new immigration bill is enacted, millions of undocumented immigrants would also apply for legalization. (Washington Post (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=85213&postcount=365))
Currently, USCIS has limited capability to produce reports detailing the status of long-pending FBI name check cases. In addition, USCIS systems do not automatically indicate when a delayed name check is complete and the case can be adjudicated. Often, this leads to a situation where the validity of other checks expire before USCIS reviews the case. Those other checks then need to be reinitiated, adding financial and time costs for applicants and USCIS. The Ombudsman fully supports the expeditious rollout of the BCS system. (page 43)
the bureau since 2001 has intensified the scrutiny of immigrants with high-technology backgrounds. (Washington Post (http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=85213&postcount=365))

Do you mean 30 credits with 3 year degree from India to complete MS?
$15K for 30 credits means $500 for 1 credit?
ISU - Iowa State University; Not from India. Yes, $15K for a total of 30 credits. Aprx 3 credits per subject => total 10 subjects. One of them must be a project, so total of 9 subjects ( with 3 credits each).

Is not paying a traffic ticket is state or federal record? If it is state, jut get a ticket do not pay it and just for the sake of it after 2 months go to Canada or Maxioco and try to come in. This will answer your own question when you re-enter..Wake up.. some has not to fax the entire case to feds.. this just automatic.. i m sure u r in IT and know how easy it is to get the records these days.. and no i do not have any access to any systems but everything is a public record if one has any..
Are you saying not paying traffic ticket is a federal crime?
Do you even know the definition of state vs federal crime?
Yes, whenever police pulls one up, they will check if he/she has any outstanding warrants in that state or run a FBI check.

Send email to who ? Can you pls describe in detail what email they need to send and what reason they need to put in. My local office always says NSC is processing July cases so you should have it soon, but that "soon" has never happened. It is 160+ days since I applied.
If you haven't tried it yet, try to follow the procedure I described on the 1st page
http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showpost.php?p=199646&postcount=3
The only reason you need is that yor EAD app is pending more than 90 days. Ask for a receipt that they followed procedures outlined in memo. They have to contact service center where your I-765 is pending and request expedite processing. You can also print federal regulations
http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/26mar20071500/edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_2007/janqtr/pdf/8cfr274a.13.pdf
Section 274a.13(d) sets that 90 days deadline.
