I was recently (Sep 2009) at the Indian Consulate in New York for renewing my Passport.
My complete name <A B> is written in the passport on the surname line. The given name field is blank! So it is in the passport as:
surname: <A B>
given name:
I would like my new passport to have it correctly as
surname <B>
given name <A>
But the consulate has refused to do it without a notarized affidavit.
I did take the affidavit to my bank for notarization, but they were obviously clueless about the affidavit form and refused to notarize it.

Did anybody send flowers to their lawyers for filling their application on july 3rd even when everything was ready before june 29nth and i heard in my company that people paid 5000 usd to the lawyers to mail their applications on june 29th.

People are sending this not make anything to change here. As long as the point is conveyed and there is media coverage, there is some redemption
People are doing this to gain a visibility and acknowledgement of our suffering.
So please encourage this rather than put a negative remark like this.
If you do not want to send it, its fine. Nobody is forcing anybody.
The flowers are going there is large numbers irrespective of what IV says or anybody says
There is no point in sending flowers knowing nothing gonna change. it is like putting flowers to us.

I am talking about those three to five feet tall cactus plants, that prick you when you touch them.
My message will be:
"Dear USCIS, since the working conditions at USCIS are poor and you may not have resources to water all the flowers that you are receiving. I am sending you a cactus that is low maintenance.

Does LUD on I 140 necessarily tie to 485 receipt generation? I don't think so - why would they touch the already approved I 140 case to begin processing 485? Unless I am missing something...
My I 140 has been approved in Feb 07 from TSC and 485 application was mailed to NSC on July 2nd. No LUD on 140 and no 485 receipts yet...
My BELIEF is that these LUD updates are for NSC filers whose I-140s have been approved at TSC. This is my belief based on certain recent receipt notices so pls DONT take this as the gospel truth.
As with everyone, I am trying to figure out if there is a Method to the USCIS madness.

abolish per country limits on EB visas will back fire us because of diversity issue. We should propose some thing where there is no controversy to reject and that's is recapture 200K visas and EAD/APO for 3 years

This is a great idea , but then DOS overturned the USCIS decision (hence the letter to Mike Chertoff and Condy of DOS from one the Congresswoman) . Shouldn't the flowers go to one of these guys ???
All bulletins are published by DOS. Same is the case with the July bulletin. However in this case, it was information from USCIS that forced DOS to reconsider!
Do you expect anyone to believe that when it takes one year to give 140, 000 visas... this time they managed to give 60, 000 visas in ONE month?? If something is fishy, it is at USCIS!

The flower campaign and protest rally etc did raise a storm on this issue.
This proves a point that we should stand up and protest against anything unjust,instead of being a passive spectator.

Labor substitution may be legal but it is unethical. When everything depends on when you join the queue, how can one cut the line?
Whereas EB3 to EB2 porting is both legal and ethical. When you have a EB3 applicant that is waiting in line for 8 years, he/she had already gathered that much experience based on his long wait. Also, if you look at EB2, it is one of the highly abused category. The EB3 applicant who started in 2001 has joined the line half a decade before the one with 2006 Eb2 PD. One can't really accuse him/her for cutting the line just like one can about substitutes! If the EB3 porting case deserves merit, then I strongly support it!
My intention is not to to start a fight. But we need to see the true picture. Without acknowledging the problem how can we fix it?
Bottom line, GC abuses need to stop and we should fight for it as much as we fight for our rights to get GC!

On a positive note, the best that we can do is, learn from our surroundings. We can learn a lot from Republicans to understand what not to do.

The best response to Obama is not to pitch twisted Jindal against Obama, because that just makes Obama look good and it help Democrats. The better response to Obama is, let Obama respond against Obama. So simply don't respond to Obama, which will prevent Republicans making him look good. Is 485 the sole purpose of our life now ? Personally I don't give a damn about the GC if I have to see my family suffer and I don't think any crime can be worse than seeing an adult abusing an infant who can't protect himself and not doing something about it.

Come on man - this is called knee jerk reaction - I can understand the anger because no one will tolerate beating children.
If something has to be done from now on in this IV community - write blogs about hiring nannies, and also warn people about what is happening on sulekha and ads on grocery stores etc... Ask people to be wary of all this. Such awareness will reduce these kind of incidents.
