Try to respect others and feel sorry about their situation.
I feel sorry for the people who live in slums of dharavi but not for people who should not have been in the US in the first place (based on their education) and are now finding ways to get ahead of the legit EB2 candidates by buying masters degrees.

My request for help on the following post http://immigrationvoice.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12255 is not going well, I am still waiting to hear from analytical minds.
Anyways, we are in process of creating an eye opener fact sheet that we will be distributed with the promotional fliers. The objective of the fact sheet is create a sense of urgency and draw people's interest to DC rally.
I am looking for ideas as to what to put in the fact sheet, while I am still waiting to hear on my other post.
Please contribute you thoughts. We need to get this completed in couple of days.

The poor response is because we are not together and we truly do not believe in our goal. With the assumption that 90% of IV members are Indians, I can safely say this is innate in our culture - we want to get the benefit without working for it AND once we get the benefit, we give a damn about the rest of "them".

And always send via USPS express mail. (1 day costed me $18) but I came to know instantly the next day that they received it.
You could also use some cheaper USPS option. as long as it has some delivery confirmation.
The reason I like express mail one day, is because u can request a copy of the receiver's signature via email (comes in a PDF). This is proof that USCIS really got it and u can then sleep nicely for the next 3 months.
Ha Ha.
Hi dilip,
Where do we get the A# from ?

It would get attention and help in educating (legal vs illegal) and would be done in conjunction with other things like:
-sending more flowers
-a huge rally in Silicon Valley
-candlelight vigil at congress
-mass letter mailings from all of us
-human chains
-hunger strike?
-etc
We have to attack simultaneusly (but SMARTLY) from all angles in order to be effective!
>>>>-sending more flowers
please.. enough of flowers..
>>>>-a huge rally in Silicon Valley
Now you have seen what goes and does not go into a rally. This is a complicated task so it has to be planned, as was the DC one.
>>>-candlelight vigil at congress
This will work if high school students do it. not "highly skilled" immigrants.
>>>>-mass letter mailings from all of us
Yeah.. spam them with emails..
>>>-human chains
This involves same complexity as the rally. so its not an easy task.
>>>-hunger strike?
This will be stupidity. ( I am not calling you stupid, but the idea. so no need to jump on me). Eat your food and live healty and happy. Is GC worth going on hunger strikes and suicide attempts? Thats too much of desperation. You are not from Afghanistan or Kenya right..?
>>>-etc
What else?
Oh yeah.. the "drain stoppers" stuff.. thats again stupid. Thats too much literal comparison to brain drain.

Sukanya Roy is America's spelling bee champion | Sukanya Roy | 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee | Indian Express (http://expressbuzz.com/world/sukanya-roy-is-americas-spelling-bee-champion/280779.html)
WASHINGTON: Spelling tongue twister "cymotrichous", Greek for having wavy hair, Indian American Sukanya Roy has won the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee crown to retain the coveted honour for the community for the fourth year in a row.
Roy, 14, an eighth-grader at Abington Heights Middle School, Pennsylvania, said she knew as soon as she heard "cymotrichous" that she'd get the word right and win the championship Thursday night.
"My heart started pounding, I guess," she said. "I couldn't believe it. . It's just amazing. It's hard to put into words."
It was Roy's third trip to the national spelling bee, and she had credited her past experience with keeping her calm and relaxed heading into the finals. She tied for 12th place in 2009 and 20th place in 2010.
Roy speaks Bengali and every summer travels to India to visit family. She hopes to pursue a career in international relations.
Roy is the ninth Indian-American in the last 13 years, a run that began when Nupur Lala captured the crown in 1999 and was later featured in the documentary "Spellbound."
The winner will be awarded a $30,000 cash prize, a trophy, a $2,500 US savings bond, a complete reference library, a $5,000 scholarship and $2,600 in reference works and other prizes.
Anamika Veeramani had scored a hat-trick for Indian-Americans in taking the crown last year.
Roy was one of the six Indian Americans - Sriram Hathwar, Arvind Mahankali, Prakash Mishra, Mashad Arora, and Dhivya Senthil Murugan - who made it to the last 13 in the finals.
The youngest finalist was 10-year-old Dhivya Murugan of Denver, who was born in India.
The spelling bee kids just keep getting better and better. Even words like chlorthalidone," "dreikanter," "renminbi" and "helichrysum" couldn't sufficiently narrow down the field in the semifinals, which needed 95 minutes of overtime earlier Thursday to whittle the competitors from 41 to 13.
The week began with 275 spellers. A written test Tuesday and two oral rounds Wednesday reduced the field for the semifinals.
According to the Scripps Spelling Bee's website, this year brought contenders ranging in age from 8 to 15 years old from all over the world.

Thanks for 'thanking' us. :-). We don't get it much here.
It's a well documented point that face-to-face meetings have the best chance of influencing lawmaker decisions [based on survey of Congressmen offices]. Letters come next and E-mails with addresses come the last. E-mail by anonymous senders are ignored. Hence the insistence on more face-to-face meetings.
If you don't know it already (which I doubt), sending a large number of anonymous E-mails, and making a large number anonymous posts in any forum is considered SPAMMING. IV will never participate or encourage such SPAMMING activities which will harm it's reputation (and don't help the cause too!)
If you think President is too busy to read our letters, why do you assume Bernanke is having all the time in the world to read anonymous E-mails and letters? He should be super-busy monitoring the BAD economic situation.
Regarding, "EB2 (I) and world advancing" if the trend continues its a good news for many, and lesser wait times for others. However, keep in mind that the swing will reverse soon, and dates will move back once we reach the end of the year (oct). PDs will be swinging wildly back and forth , like a pendulum, from now on. But don't count on it helping you. It's like a lottery. You may get it, or miss it. Until visa numbers are increased ,a large number of us, unfortunately, will continue to be stuck in the backlog and will be motivated to participate (once we have missed it for 2-3 years, we definitely will be more appreciative and more active).
No need to make melodramatic statements like these "people who oppose an idea(and take extra effort to shoot it down) are much worse than those who do nothing ". Nobody here is stopping you or others from doing what you deem right. We are just "suggesting" that it's not a good idea. You are free to ignore our suggestions, and do whatever you like. We too have the "freedom of expression" to make suggestions. Don't we?
first of all a big THANKS !! for doing the above. so basically we come to the earlier point - if there are not enough dedicated members (due to laziness, family priorities etc etc) then we can try the next thing i.e. send letters / emails to whoever cares to read them and pray that something happens.
as of now (and in my knowledge) IV is only sending letters to the President - who is obviously a busy man and maybe the letters dont even reach him.
and hence maybe IV should start campaigns to send emails / letters to other important people (Ben, Paulson, Realtors association etc etc ) and hope that the word reaches important people.
there is bit of urgency too ..as EB2 (I) and world start to advance ..you will get less volunteers (who take the effort to write and email)... let alone people who will take a day off to meet congressmen.
maybe people can just send emails or post messages related to legal immigration on websites which have articles on housing, economy etc ..what is needed is leadership at top to direct people (rather than concentrating on one campaign only)

I guess using our degrees to pass on a message is a fool-proof idea. That can immediately catch on with media like flowers did. If not stoppers, we can write our message in bold colors on the degrees.
Indeed thoughtful. I'm all in for it.
That's neat. We should all send a copy of our MS or other higher education degrees to lawmakers. On the back (or on the front itself) we can write details of our GC process.

The earlier who mentioned about hard hitting a car on Tree/building to shake the robber and run away is absolutely misleading peoples. There is no reward for bravery or mental sharpness in US for folks who wins a fight with robber or outsmarts them.
How much the Robber can steal from you - Couple of hundred cash, 5 credit cards ( which you can immediately cancel if you are not injured) and some important contacts. Be Nice with him and give him what he wants, tell them that you understand their situation and be sympathetic and polite with them.
I once did that and the robber just took 20 bucks from my wallet, 3 Marlboro Lights cigarettes and returned me the rest of money, credit cards,my SSN card and important contact papers and my rest cigarette pack and told me "you look like a nice guy".
Don't panic seeing robber or don't make the robber panic by shouting or banging your car on the building :) Robbers are just human beings like us with pathetic economic conditions ....
I have to respectfully disagree with the point 4 you have mentioned.
If a thug is attacking you, it is best to just obey what ever he is demanding. Under no circumstances, try to outsmart him. Us trying to outsmart a thug during a robbery will be like the thug trying to outsmart us in computer programming.
If a thug wants the car, just give him the keys and walk away. Insurance will pay us the price of the car - deductible. The same amount we will get, if we take our chance and destroy the car trying to outsmart the guy. And who knows, may be the 'thug' is a cousin of yours trying a prank on you. And in the dark, you could not really see his face.
Robbers charging your credit card is no big deal either. There are federal laws protecting us on incorrect credit card charges. Would you want to risk your life for just $50?

"AMPLIFICATION: The above Washington Wire item on the letter from House Republicans to Speaker Pelosi urging passage of an immigration bill to "help and retain" high-skilled workers refers to legislation that would increase the number of H-1B visas and green cards for high-tech and other skilled workers. The question in the WSJ poll referred to a separate effort, pushed by President Bush, to revamp the immigration system and provide a path to citizenship for those in the U.S. illegally. The item wasn't intended to imply high-skilled workers are illegal immigrants"

First of all, you dont have a binary choice in the matter such as either you learn 50,000 words and their spellings or go smoke dope. There is a middle ground here.
Secondly, why do I see in company after company, especially in the knowledge industry that a straight A student, like your Kavya here, working for a manager who had been a B- student who in turn works for an executive who was a C- student ?
Get educated ... that's fine. But dont get over-educated such that you are a cripple who cannot think outside the box. Too much education, too many straight As, too many spellings will make you incapable of thinking outside the box, taking risks. Anyways, that's my belief and my opinion and everyone is free to raise their kids in whatever way they deem fit. I for one, would never ask my 2 children to participate in any spelling bee contest.
As far as your desi company thoughts go, it has nothing to do with spelling bee topic. However, let me tell you this. By being holier than thou and telling other people "I got a degree from here and you dumb asses have never been to an American college, so get lost you idiot, this job here is mine..." does not help anyone. Also, no desi companies put a gun to the head of anyone - Indian educated or US educated - to work for them. And let me remind you, there is AN ENTIRE GENERATION of US educated US masters degree holders who had no job after graduating and have been to a desi company to get trained on the real-world software applications. I am sure you know some people yourself, just as I know some people in that situation. If the US masters degree made them super-duper smart, then they would not be knocking doors of desi companies for education after graduating.
I am no fan of desi companies, everyone here knows that. But don't preach a holier than thou sermon to everyone who doesn't have a US degree. Because your US degree isn't worth a bucket of warm spit when it comes to getting a job.
I guess you are speaking like Tom Peters. But in the end, it all depends on where one wants to be and what is the world view of someone. If one thinks that just because someone is a manager over others, that makes that someone better and more successful than others, and if most B- students manage A+ students (which is fuzzy maths), yes, in that case it maybe that its better to get a B- grade than A+, and there is no need to go to business school either. If the world view and the objective is not just to become a manager or make 100K instead of 120K, but actually do something worthwhile in every stage of your life, rather than just having an objective of becoming a manager, maybe its about learning a language and words, then why not. Strong vocabulary is the first stage to clear expression and clear expression is the corner stone of a successful and satisfying career, including bring a manager. I don't see anything wrong with learning more words, or loving parents or obedient children. Everyone has a different age in their life when we revolt against the environment, just to break free. Its not necessary that one must continue to revolt an entire lifetime to be creative or be better than others. Bill Gates or Steve jobs never wanted to become just managers, they wanted to re-invent the future. College dropouts, but successful. But how many Gates and Jobs do we have? I guess there is no clear definition of success and different people gauge success differently, but most people, more so in this crowd on this forum, relate success to level of education/university (US masters or Bachelors from India), and title at work place. But maybe the key is not how others gauge your success, but how you gauge yourself. Maybe you have set your eyes on squeezing most number of lemons or maybe being fastest eater of a water melon, or climbing on top of rhinoceros back, whatever it is, if you have done it and you feel satisfied, you will see yourself as successful. So whatever is the definition of success, whatever is anybody's opinion or world-view, the fact is, these kids did well with the goal they had set for themselves. And if that is how they feel satisfied with their hard work, they are successful. The fact that there were so many other contestants wanting to prove that they were better than others, and they weren't, makes it a recognizable achievement. Its that simple.
Secondly, why do I see in company after company, especially in the knowledge industry that a straight A student, like your Kavya here, working for a manager who had been a B- student who in turn works for an executive who was a C- student ?

So whatever is the definition of success, whatever is anybody's opinion or world-view, the fact is, these kids did well with the goal they had set for themselves. And if that is how they feel satisfied with their hard work, they are successful. The fact that there were so many other contestants wanting to prove that they were better than others, and they weren't, makes it a recognizable achievement. Its that simple.

Would you please elaborate if the flower campaign has hit any mainstream media like CNN, Fox etc?? Or just the TOI and other small covers? I just want to know how famous this has become.. Thanks.
Mainstream media seem to be cautious about these issues as it may work against their self interests.
I am still surprised that CNN did not pick this though MSNBC (did a positive) and FOX (Did a negative) on this

Hello Everyone,
I am back again. This forum is outstanding when it comes to reliable information....
I work for a reputed US Consulting firm. They under-pay you and make you over work. They market fake resumes in a polished way. YES... IT is TRUE. Don't just blame the desi consultants.
I am on a EAD. I wanted to switch to hourly basis and wanted to see if there are any direct vendors who would be ready to pay better rates. Desi Consulting Co. is out of question. From my experience, Robert Half is bad too. Is there a better way to market yourself..to the employer?
Any help will be appreciated. !!
It would make more sense to compare and brainstorm if you can post the skillset you have in mind and the rate you wish for?
I agree that being on EAD or having a GC puts a person in a better situation compared to H1B but the bottom line is the skillset in context, demand for that skillset and expertise that one has in that skillset.

now ..confirmed with two immigration attorneys.. this ruling goes into effect tomorrow.. they are all scrambling to file i140s on the last day!(today)
------------
Ok. This comes from a very reliable source.. but need some clarification from the experts out here...
1) No LC Substitutions
2) If one hasn't filed the I-140 within 45 days of receiving the approved labor certification, then he/she is SOL. This rule goes into effect tomorrow 5/18 and this may be applied retro-actively...i.e. If you have received an approved labor certification in the past 45 days and not filed yet.. you may have to re-file labor, as your approval is invalid!..
any ideas?
text from the ammendment-
In order to protect the integrity of the permanent labor certification
program, deter fraud, and comply with the Department's statutory obligation
to protect the wages and working conditions of U.S. workers, the Department
has determined a number of amendments are appropriate. The first amendment
would prohibit the substitution of alien beneficiaries on pending
applications for permanent labor certification and on approved permanent
labor certifications not yet filed with DHS. This amendment could, at least
to some degree, affect DHS's current practice of allowing U.S. employers to
substitute an alien through the filing of a new Form I-140 petition,
supported by a labor certification in the name of the original beneficiary.
The second amendment would require a permanent labor certification be filed
with DHS within 45 calendar days of the date it is certified by DOL. The
third amendment would prohibit the sale, barter, and purchase of
applications and approved labor certifications, as well as other related
payments. Finally, the Department is proposing enforcement mechanisms,
including debarment with appeal rights, to protect the integrity of the
permanent labor certification program and deter individuals or entities from
engaging in prohibited transactions or abusing the labor certification
process. The Department invites public comment regarding all aspects of each
of these proposed changes.
