    Hello there,

    I have been wanting to make an IV contribution for a long time and here is my problem..I probably can be labeled a miseror a magpie! ..Whenever I go to the IV link to contribute and see the $50 or $100 option I panic and get out..yes I do!
    I have some desi colleagues and was discussing this issue with them at work..and they had the exact same experience..wow..I am not the only magpie..

    But hey is'nt IV the one which is at the receiving end not getting our contributions..

    I speak from my own experience and call me a mapie or a miser..or whatever..I cant make myself make a $50 or more contribution .. thats the way I am..But I can sure make a smaller contribution (like a monthly recurring $10 contribution which really is easier to make) and I am quite sure IV will benefit from my small contributions as well as i think a lot more people will not hesitate making contributions in smaller denominations than a whopper $50+

    And really this is not related to IV effort but more to do with my own way of thinking about parting with my money..I love my money..:)...

    My history - Made $0 contributions so far..and have been wanting to contribute for a long time now..but keep backing away..

    I have just kept GC out of the equation for anything I do in my life. Buying a house was a personal choice and I could afford one - so just went ahead and did it. If I have to leave the country for good due to some immigration related bs, my lender can suck it up :D

    Go to the Trenton DMV . Take your ORIGINAL receipt and a letter from your employer . They will give you extension for 240 days . I got it done in May 2007.The draft of the employer's letter is as follows

    I have money crunch in US. I have accumulated huge debt in my CC.     Getting expungemen t wouldnot help in his case.
    For immigration purposes, his conviction stands.
    Everytime when he visits consulate for a visa or enters USA at POE, he needs to indicate this on documents and provide explanation (if asked ) with relevant documents.

    Yes, I do agree with you but he asked a specific question related to travelling, and his expungement will help. He need not to declare at the POE about his case but as you said he will have the side effects of this case in various other stages till he is admitted as PR.

    However, if your H1 is expiring soon, and you have already used up 6 years of H1, you would need an EAD, because H1 extension beyond 6 years is available only for people who cant file I485 because of retrogression.

    Sorry to hear this. Regarding medical insurance, your company has to offer you COBRA..you will end up paying almost twice the premium that you have been paying so far, but it would still be better than you footing the delivery charges (10k - 25K). Continue CORBA atleast till the deliver and post-partum - for as long as possible..

    Terminating you in your ninth month pregnancy is probably against the law, i think if you can prove it, you might be able to sue your employer, check your local state laws..

    When adding my wife to my medical coverage provided by my employer, my wife was pregnent, I did a bit of reading up, most of the group insurance policies offered by employers does not consider pregnancy as pre-exisitng condition. That is the major benefit of group insurance policies. If your husband is working in the west, Kaiser
    is the way to go!

    As mentioned in the above post, employer should offer CORBA, which can be your backup.

    Always remember that tough times will always pass!! just hang in there!

    Well, last year i was in a similar situation too ,actually worse than yours.My project ended in February '08.Then i went to India for 4 months. After i got back , my employer refused to pay for my health inssurance.I opted for COBRA and was paying 1200$ for my family , with my husband and child listed as dependants.I attended several interviews,while I was expecting my second child . Though its against the law, many were skeptical in employing me as a consultant during this time. I was very lucky to get a full time offer using my EAD, where my health coverage started after 60 days .All this time, without a project , i was paying through my nose for the health insurance using COBRA.

    Ofcourse, i never bothered to inform my employer about my new employement.(Do i need to??)One fine day, i get an update on my H1 application , that the case has been reopened for review , and i get to know through my employer that he has CANCELLED my H1(got a 3 year extension based an approved I140).He did not give me chance to transfer it, inspite of me working rather slogging for 4 years , during which he shamelessly took the overtime money i earned as part of the billing.Though, i feel cheated,used etc etc.... but i did nothing. What could i have done?
    All through my journey in this GC process, i have had bitter experiences with desi employers.Though i've been in this country for 10 long years, i am still sitting waiting for my GC with the PD of Dec '05!! The previous employer, said he was filing my GC under EB2 but actually used EB3. And he also was willing to 'sell me my labor' for 12k!!!!! when i requested for retaining the PD. I coulddo nothing..
    I am not writing all this to vent my anger but to make you think that there could be other worse things happening to us.

    Also can somebody educate me on the 'stimulus' ,please?(pardon my ignorance)

    According to June 12 2008 memo from USCIS FAQ :

    If you filed Form I-765 more than 90 days ago and have not received a decision, who should you contact?


    If you have not received a decision within 90 days of the USCIS receipt date and you have properly filed your EAD application, you may apply to obtain an interim EAD by appearing in person at your local USCIS District Office. You must bring proof of identity and any notices that you have received from USCIS in connection with your application for employment authorization.

    I am really proud of the group that thought about this idea, frankly at first I was not convinced that it would be such a good idea. But hey, anything that gets attention is a good idea. So kuddos to english_august, nixtor and the rest of the gang that made this happen.

    another note: people who disagree with this idea, and feel that it is childish, please: what is your grand idea, and what are you planning to do? have you sent emails to reporters? talked to anyone about what is wrong with the USCIS?.
