I think we should encourage members/readers to e-mail this article to others, even though it might be have been read by everyone.
The reason is that headlines change every day, and are easily forgotten, but the "Most e-mailed" section is quite persistent.. Plus, many regular readers of WP (like me), simply jump to the "most e-mailed" section directly to check out the most interesting stories.. Also, the rank and durability of an article in the "most emailed" section is a direct measure of the perceived impact of an article.. making sure this article stay there is therefore very important.
Maybe we should have a separate thread requesting members to email article from WP's website?

Cornyn's amendment is "general legislation" seeking to amend an "appropriations bill". To be able to vote on Cornyn's amendment, 60 Senators have to vote to waive Rule No. 4. Only then can the senate vote on Cornyn's "general legislation".
Sorry to flog a dead horse but the Dems should not be blamed; if they had voted to waive the Rule, then all sorts of general amendments would have been offered by others and tough to cast aside.
On the other hand, it is useful to know that more than a handful repubs support this amendment; this could be handy in an actual vote when Sessions or his ilk seeks to filibuster the amendment. We may have 60 votes to win cloture.

Absolutely true, It is torturing the kids for the aspirations of the parents to be seen in the national TV and for award.
It is not the poor kids are not getting the award, it is the parent, especially it is the trend with indians.
why ? ask your kids to do same and see what you feel on that night. can your kids do same ? forget about torturing or anything for a moment. Didn't you see Nupur Lala a past winner where she is now ? if she was torture for that competition she would n't be in MIT. its a competition of brain power to me.

Skilled, Legal Immigrants Tangled in Illegal Immigration Mess
The debate over what to do about the millions of illegal immigrants in this country has occupied much of the public mind share over the past year, including press coverage, demonstrations, and debate and legislation at all levels of government. Drowned out by all the noise over illegal immigration is an issue of critical importance to American industry and tens of thousands of hopeful would-be citizens: the legal immigration system for skilled workers is badly broken and in need of an overhaul.
Of the on-average 850,000 green cards doled out annually over the past decade, approximately 16% (140,000 / yr), are allocated to so-called �skilled workers� - nurses, engineers, medical researchers, and a variety of other professionals. They have at least a bachelor�s degree, typically in a technical discipline, and many have master�s degrees or doctorates and significant experience in their fields. These workers pay taxes and health insurance, are educated and law-abiding, and they contribute to their communities. Most importantly, they help drive economic growth by supplying critical skills to US industry in an increasingly competitive global market.
Contrary to what some alarmists will have you believe, these workers are not stealing American jobs. They are brought to the US by American-owned companies who can�t find sufficiently skilled US workers. The US Department of Labor (USDOL) requires the employer to prove that there are no suitably qualified US workers available before allowing the foreign worker to be hired. Skilled green card applicants are also not �cheap labor�. The employer is required by law to pay at least as much as they would pay a comparably qualified US worker. This wage is established by survey and audited by USDOL. Anti-immigration rhetoric simply does not hold up to scrutiny when compared with realities of the legal immigration process.
The green card process for skilled workers has traditionally taken 18-24 months. However, many current applicants are facing waits of 5 years or more due to bureaucratic bottlenecks at the Department of Labor, US Citizenship and Immigration Services, and even the FBI. Recent attempts to fix the legal green card process have become mired in politics over what to do about illegal immigrants. For example, a number of measures that would have helped US corporations sponsor legal green card applicants were included in the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA) of 2006. However, after passing in the Senate last year, this bill ground to a halt in the House because it provided a path to citizenship for illegal aliens, a measure strongly opposed by many US Representatives.
Legal green card applicants are hopeful that Comprehensive Immigration Reform will be re-visited in 2007 and get a much warmer reception now that the US House of Representatives is controlled by the Democrats. Measures in the bill introduced last year would help to restore the green card process back to traditional 18-24 month wait times, allowing immigrants to get on with their lives and integrate fully with the US workforce in a timely fashion. Highly skilled, legal workers are good for the economy, good for our communities, and good for American industry in an increasingly competitive global economy. Assuming that I got my EAD, and then my I-140 got denied for whatever reason.
What happen next? Will i be out of status? do i have to leave the country? if i'm F-1 student will i be back on F-1?

Yes.You will be out of status unless you moved into a different visa like H1B /H4 (if you time left on them and able to get in the quota) .

Hello H1b Guy,
I am sorry for the situation you are in. The employer should be punished. Let me ask you:
1. do you have any email correspondance with the employer asking you pay for h1b fee?
2. if you don't then pose him a question using office email something like "how much is still pending on my h1b fee that i owe you (replace you)". Address this to HR or Payroll or the boss it self. Wait for the reply, and then take copy of it for record purpose.
3. if '2' does not work then wire tapping is way to go:

As per the law in New Jersy, one party should be notified and if you are recording you conversation, you are the one party and the other do not have to be notified. Are you using voip in the office? if so use wireshark to record the conversation. If not then there are devices available outside for cheap to do it.
I am not a lawyer, please do some more research and then find a way. If you really want to trap these type of guys there are tons of legal ways to do it. Hope, this helps. Take care. All the best.

I would say even Canadian system of education is different from US. However difference in Canada is 10% v/s difference with India is 80%.
Remember Canada is Commonwealth country and ex British Colony and their education system is amalagmation of British and US systems. So even in Canaz they will prounces Z as Zed and not as Zee as in US. They will also write cheque and not check.
Canada educational system standards are high. In Canada public school is free like US but it goes beyond US in that even school supplies are free. You pay nothing for pen, book, paper or anything used in the classroom.
Also in Canad there are public Catholic schools where school is run by Catholics but with government aid so you pay nothing. Something like private school with no fees. or your Indian convent schools which many of us may have been to.

AP's are still being given with 1 year validity I think. Only EAD's with 2 year validity will start from July 1st onwards.
