Omg with no laptop updates, I'd like to watch as Apple's laptop sales tumble. Already the Apple Store dropped their MacBook shipping days down to 3-5 days (nobody wants it). :mad:

Is it possible Apple could release the final version with the option to initialize a drive with ZFS prior to install? Everything I have read about ZFS seems to point to it as a next logical step for Apple's OS.
I'd guess about 40% chance of that (which is actually pretty good; the odds that they'll release a final version with the option to initialize a drive with NTFS are around 0%). I'd like to see it - I have seen the future, and it's ZFS.

What iPad user can't figure out how to use iTunes to sync the thing? My 65-year old mother figured out how to sync her iPod classic. How is iPad syncing any different or more complicated than what people have been doing for a decade? iPad does not require a tech genius - or 12 year old kid - to keep it working.It's not about figuring it out. It's about having a computer period. A normal person doesn't own multiple computers. He owns a computer. He might not even have bought it himself, and certainly won't maintain multiple computers (nor will the person who gifted the computer). So once the tablet is the normal person's computer, it's going to be the only one he's using. Telling him he needs a second computer just to use his primary computer is unacceptable.
Example: My mom has a computer. It was a Christmas present from me one year. But now it's old, full of crap, and needs replacing. But instead of upgrading it, I got her an iPad. It meets all her computer needs (except printing). That old clunker is in no shape to run iTunes; it's hard drive isn't even as large as the iPad's! I certainly won't be upgrading her desktop just to let her sync her iPad, nor will she when she's happy using just the iPad. She gets updates on the occasions that I visit with my MBP.
The system works well enough; her iPad is her sole computer. But it requires that I, the tech relative, keep it updated.

Kinda agree i could seem myself using a iPad over my MBP when i am not working, having that separation from programming is what appeals to me.
I want to work when i work and not have to think when i am just browsing the web, in reality the iPad covers all my computing needs when i am not programming.
Though it would be lovely to have Aperture on the iPad to cover my hobby needs but it would require some from of local wireless storage access as i don't think many 25MB images would fit on 64GB.
Yep, it's those pesky 25MB images and 1080P video that keep me at my desk with my iMac. I would love to be able to touch up my full-sized images on the iPad. Give it 5 years.

I'll take Verizon's slower speeds and larger 3g coverage area any day. AT&T has such a small 3G footprint and Edge speeds are unbearable and unusable in many rural areas. The superior 3G technology is meaningless if you can't get coverage. CDMA coverage is far more prevalent and reliable in the US and that's important to many people, especially those who travel.
If it mattered (I bought a wifi for the wife).... I'd get a verizon ipad to go with my att iPhone4. Why... If I got verizon service only, I'd use that... If I got ATT service, I'd tether off of that and get higher speeds (in theory).
YMMV.

I am sorry if this has been said before, but I would really LOVE to have a right-click (or control-click) option that allows you to send the selected item as an email.
So right-click on a -say- pdf, doc, jpg or mp3 displays the the drop-down menu and if you select the 'send as email' function it opens a new mail msg with selected file already attached.
To me that would be incredibly handy. anybody else think this is a cool idea?

Just thought I'd let you guys know I decided on an Xbox 360 Arcade. I really didn't want to drop $300 on the new system -- plus GameStop had none -- and this allowed me to not take as much of a risk moneywise. I'm already finding out how crazy low 256MB of memory is, so I'll probably end up getting an add-on HDD.
The advice was all pretty good. I'm glad I wasn't the only person angry at Wii developers not named Nintendo for their lack of good titles. I'm starting gently on this thing with Halo 3 and the kiddie games that came with this package. Halo 3 so far is a little confusing because I have never used an Xbox controller and it's been years since I played a game like this. I also had to use my 32" TV instead of the older 57" TV because the 57" TV put a nice black spot in the middle of the screen.
So far so good. It's just very confusing at times. I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to start a Gold membership. There's something online that says a month of Gold for $1, but I don't want to have to auto-renew after that not knowing the price. I have seen a 12-month card at Amazon for $35. They need an idiot's guide to this, plus I wish I could plug up my existing HDDs!
So thanks again for the advice. If anybody knows something REALLY fun to play that isn't too expensive, I'd love to know.

i have the exact same problem, i can't get update to work, i unplugged all the usb and firewire cables etc. nothing, beeeeep, reboot, grey screen, apple and circle for normal boot... frustration.
i'm running startup disk in sriped raid, can this influence the update?
Well well, I did not know you could boot from a raid set. Live and learn, this is great news, your bood drive can use all 4 drives stripped and mirrored, kool!!!!
